2023 has been an interesting year especially when it comes to my personal photography because this year, I shot more by shooting less. Wait, that doesn’t make any sense right? Let’s just put it this way – I began shooting with film again. Who would have thought that limiting to 24-36 photos per roll and needing to wait for it to be developed would ignite my passion for photography once again. There is just something magical when you shoot film that no digital, state-of-the-art camera technology can replicate. Plus, experimenting with different film cameras made it more fun!
So without further ado, here are the 10 film cameras I’ve shot in the second half of 2023.
Minolta Riva 110 zoom

First up, one of the first film camera purchases I made in 2023 – the Minolta Riva 110 zoom. It’s a point-and-shoot zoom camera made mostly out of plastic but I have to say, it’s one hell of a camera that comes in a small package. Read more about this camera

Yashica FX-3 Super

The first film SLR I own and use. The Yashica FX-3 Super is a fully mechanical camera that is simple and easy to use. Smaller in size and more affordable than other film SLRs, this camera is a perfect balance of functionality and value, especially for beginner film photographers. Read more about this camera

Pentax Espio 90MC

Another point-and-shoot zoom camera in my collection, the Pentax Espio 90MC is currently my go-to everyday camera. It has a nice design that has that 90’s to early 2000 aesthetic which I’m a huge fan of. It’s pocketable and has all the features you need for your daily driver. Read more about this camera

Ricoh 500G

The Ricoh 500G is a compact rangefinder camera that doesn’t need any battery to operate. Despite its size, it is a capable full manual camera with a nice 40mm f2.8 lens. I am a huge fan of rangefinder cameras for their look and stealth, making them perfect for your street photography needs. Read more about this camera

Nikon f-801

My favorite Nikon autofocus film SLR. I love this camera because it showcases Nikon’s transition from the “boxy” type SLR to a more modern smooth-edged camera design. Also, this was Nikon’s 2nd autofocus SLR which is far more reliable than their first attempt. Read more about this camera

Olympus 35SP

My favorite rangefinder in my collection. The Olympus 35SP is regarded as one of the more advanced cameras of its time. You can use it fully manual without batteries, or fully automatic with batteries. Also, it is known for its highly acclaimed G.Zuiko 42mm f1.7 lens. Read more about this camera

Nikon N2020

Nikon’s first autofocus SLR and may I say, one of the best-looking film SLRs out there. An underrated camera in my opinion – the Nikon N2020 is what innovation looks like at that time. It is what I consider Nikon’s perfect combination of the old and the new. Read more about this camera

Nikon FM

One of my dream Nikon SLRs and the most reliable film camera I have in my collection. The build quality on the Nikon FM is just great and being a full mechanical camera, you never have to worry about running out of power. Plus, the Nikon F/FM is Nikon’s most iconic line of film camera so I’m really happy I got this one for cheap. Read more about this camera

Yashica MF-2 Super

The only film camera on this list that I didn’t purchase. The Yashica MF-2 Super is a point-and-shoot, plastic film camera that has a fix prime lens. It might be the simplest film camera I own when it comes to features, but still a fun camera to shoot with. Read more about this camera

Nikon F100

The Nikon F100 is like any modern Nikon DSLR only that it shoots film. This camera is packed with features that can compete with the newest cameras today. It has a great metering system, a fast and accurate autofocus and a lot more!

And there you have it, 10 film cameras in 2023. Hoping to add a lot more to the list this year. Also, thank you once again for reading the blogs, 2023 saw my website more than quadruple the visits from previous years. So cheers to more blogs and amazing photography this 2024.
