Fujifilm X-E3 review in 2023

The Fujifilm X-E3 is a mirrorless rangefinder-style camera released in 2017 by Fujifilm. It is the 3rd generation camera in the Fujifilm X-E series and has a 24-megapixel APS-C size X-trans sensor. This camera has the most changes and improvements between the 3 generations. It is the first X-E camera with a touch screen and boasts a simpler design but with more functionalities and added performance. Depending on the lens you use, it is also one of the smaller Fujifilm cameras out there considering the number of physical controls still made available for this camera.

With a smaller lens attached to it, the camera becomes almost “pocketable”

In my opinion, this is the most underrated Fujifilm camera and has all the capabilities to create stunning images comparable to newer and higher models, making it a relevant and reliable camera in 2023. I purchased mine used in 2018 and is my second favorite camera I currently own – my Fujifilm X100s still holds that crown. The only main advantage this camera has over my Fuji X100s is that you can swap lenses with it. You can purchase the XE-3 on the used market today for around 20,000 – 25,000 PHP (360-450 USD) body only. Which is honestly a huge bargain.

What I like most about this camera is the amount of customization you can do with it. Being an interchangeable system, you can obviously choose to use different lenses to suit your needs. You can even adapt old lenses when using lens adaptors or choose from a wide variety of inexpensive 3rd party lens options. Make the camera as small as possible for convenience or make it beefier and more comfortable to hold by using an optional hand grip attachment. Contrary to popular opinion, this is also a very capable video camera and I have used it to shoot video documentaries in the past. The biggest downside really in its video-making capability and the common point of contention between enthusiasts is the lack of a tiltable screen.

The optional hand grip is a great addition, especially when using a larger lens

Aside from its camera’s vintage look and feel, Fujifilm is also known for its superb image quality, and the Fujifilm X-E3 is no exception. This camera produces beautiful images! Although I haven’t put it through its phases as much as I wanted (I’m obsessed with the X100s), I’ve shot thousands of photos with it without any complaints. I’ve used it on family vacations, special occasions, video shoots, portraits, and street photography, or just have it on me as an everyday carry. This camera is as versatile as any camera can be. So if you are looking for a capable camera that won’t break the bank and plan to use it for a long period of time, I would highly recommend that you look at the Fujifilm X-E3 and consider it as one of your options.
