Hi! On this blog, I’ll be taking you with me in a time capsule. From the Archives is a series where I showcase some of my old works. Old but gold as they say – well at least for me.
In 2012 my passion for photography was at its all-time high. I remember going out whenever there was a holiday or any free day I had and documenting whatever I can. And some of these outings became more memorable than others. This particular one does. The photos here are taken during UNDAS – a yearly tradition in the Philippines where we visit our departed loved ones. These are the days when you see the cemetery as lively as they’ll ever be all year round. No pun intended.

I have a love-hate relationship when it comes to spooky things. I love watching horror shows but I can’t watch them alone. I like spooking myself when it’s daytime but immediately regret it come nightfall. And the cemetery is the last place I want to be in taking photos. But UNDAS brings something unique to my soul. I only have good memories during UNDAS because as a child this is one of the days when we get to see our relatives, especially cousins. And that is the case with a lot of us. Staying late in the cemetery with all the candles lit around was also a sight to see.

The amount of energy and life during these days is just ironic, and that is what I tried to show in these photos. But if you have ever been in the Philippines during UNDAS you would know that capturing those wouldn’t be so hard. I remember playing with my cousins nonstop throughout the night. This is the time when the living plays with the dead. Okay, I spooked myself on that sentence. Ughhh…

Now, these sets of photos wouldn’t justify much of what I’ve talked about. You just have to take my word for it. I think I wasn’t able to take night photos during this time for some obvious reasons. Yes, I was afraid – wait, no I’m not. Anyway, I’ll definitely document UNDAS again in the future and create a better story.

Again, thank you for reading my blog. Please do consider following me on my Social media and subscribing to my vlog (which I am getting more active btw). Before we part (again, no pun intended) let me leave you with a video of a yearly special during UNDAS that hunts me throughout my childhood. Enjoy!
