Last week, I wrote about my camera gears. Today, I’ll be showcasing what I think is a better collection – my photography Photobook collection. As much as I love cameras, there is no better investment than knowledge. Of course, you can learn a lot of things from different platforms, especially the internet. I for one can spend a lot of time on Wikipedia clicking hyperlinks after hyperlinks digging deep about a certain topic that interests me. But a lot of times, I feel like the internet could be a little overwhelming. One can easily be lost in thoughts on the internet – one moment you’re looking at articles about Israel and Palestinian conflict and just a few minutes later you’re already watching videos on YouTube about Mukbang or something else. Or is it just me? Anyway, you get the point. Reading books for me is like shooting film, it slows you down and you get into it more intently. Also, it’s cheaper than buying camera gears and will 100% make you a better photographer.

Yes, I know photobooks can be expensive too, especially coffee table books that are most sought after and a favorite among photographers and collectors. But I found secrets on how you can spend less – “thrift stores” and warehouse sales. Though finding a quality photography book in good condition in these places can take time and a lot of “digging”, that is all part of the fun, right? Most of my book collection ranges from 20 Php – 400 Php max, with a few exceptions that are gifted to me and bought brand new. I remembered once that I scored a coffee table book for only 20 Php on a warehouse sale. Now that’s a steal! I mean, that’s a deal! 😉
P.S. I’m all for buying brand new books and supporting our awesome publishers. But if you are a student or on a budget. Buying second-hand books is an awesome way to learn and broaden your knowledge.

By now a lot of you might realize that I am indeed a nerd for photography. Aside from just taking pictures, I am also big when it comes to photography’s rich history and always wanted to learn about the life and works of those considered to be the pioneers of photography. Though my collection is diverse enough when it comes to genres of photography, my favorites have always been about history, social documentary and Journalism.

I haven’t read all the books in my collection yet, but I plan to make a series about them. Some sort of my personal impression after reading a specific book. This way I can also share with you a summary of each book and why I purchased them. So stay tuned for that, and again thank you for reading my blog!
