Lately, the life we’re trying to get used to is very different from the life we took for granted a few months ago. Although we’re still hoping that this pandemic is temporary, one can also wonder if things may never go back to how they used to be? Is the vibrancy of life forever toned down by this pandemic?

Today, stuck at home and because of the immense desire to go out and see the beauty of the world again, I was looking at some of our family travel photos and documentary works I did in the past. Just so I can reminisce and share. Then I came across a series I made for the City of Santiago, Isabela back in 2012. A documentary project about life and livelihood in an emerging city in the province.

Before, whenever I see these photos, it gave me a feeling of joy, happiness, and endearment. Now, I can’t help but realize that they are the same people greatly affected by this pandemic – the teachers, the entertainers, the construction workers, your favorite street vendor, our farmers, and many more. Most of them are completely out of work and some could still be working but without the repercussions of a nearly stagnant economy. Of course, all of us are affected by what is happening today, but some are suffering more than others. Way more than others.

Wishing that everything will soon go back to what it used to be, not just for my sometimes petty desires, but especially for them.

**NOTE: Photos are taken way before the Covid-19 lockdown.
